UG Call for Applications for MSc, MPH & PhD Programmes 2016 / 2017

university of ghana 1We are glad to inform the general public the University of Ghana Application form for MSc, MPH & PhD Programmes is still on going for 2016 / 2017 academic year.

Background of the Programme

The College of Health Sciences (UG) in partnership with Brown University, USA has received funding from the NIH-Fogarty International Centre to fund Masters, PhDs short term courses in the following areas at the University of Ghana, Brown University, USA and Selected universities in South Africa. The main objective of this funding is to develop capacity of trainees to advance independent and high quality research that would transform TB prevention and care programmes for people living with HIV in Ghana.

UG Faculty are ideal candidates for the long-term training programmes. However, Non-UG affiliates must show evidence of intention to work in the UG for a period not less than 15 years after completion of the programme. Long-term Trainees will participate in well-established training programmes at UG, Brown, University of Florida or South Africa and will undertake a complete thesis project or gain technical skills in an important area currently unavailable in Ghana.  They would be required to develop their own independent projects with their mentors to be submitted for independent review with the Technical Advisory Group for up to $10,000 (PhD) or $7,000 (Masters) for a one-time in-country research project during the degree programme.

General Requirements for MSc, MPhil and MPH

  • The successful candidate must have a minimum of:
  • BSc, BA or other equivalent Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Intense interest and proven experience in scientific exploration in the areas outlined above
  • A strong ambition to accomplish TB/HIV-related research goals
  • Excellent academic  results /transcripts
  • Access to relevant national data
  • An excellent GRE score for candidates intending to study in US universities

 

General Requirements for PhD

  • The successful candidate must have a minimum of:
  • MD, M.Sc, MPhil, MPH, or other equivalent masters degree in a relevant field
  • Having met the minimum pre requisite courses for PHD training
  • An excellent GRE score for candidates intending to study in US universities
  • Intense interest and proven experience in scientific exploration in the areas outlined above
  • Competency in both quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • A strong ambition to accomplish TB/HIV-related research goals
  • Excellent academic  results /transcripts
  • Access to relevant national data

 

General Requirements for 3-12-month programmes

  • Individualized needs and discussion with Mentors

 

Responsibilities and Application Process

Candidates for MSc/MPhil/MPH or PhD at UG will be offered a two-year or four-year scholarship respectively beginning August 2016. Candidates for MSc/MPhil/MPH at Brown University will also be offered a two-year scholarship.  Evaluation of the progress of the respective programme activities will be done according to regulations at the Universities involved. Qualified candidates should submit the under listed documents to htbprojectoffice@gmail.com by;

31/03/2016 for Masters/PhD at UG and by

30/04/2016 for Masters at Brown, SA or University of Florida:

  • A letter motivating your application
  • Updated CV indicating position and employer with certificates and academic transcripts
  • At most 1-page TB/HIV-related research proposal within the listed areas of research
  •  Evidence of admission or process of admission at UG or a South African University
  • Intent to enrol in either Brown University or University of Florida
  • List of peer reviewed publications (if any)
  • 2 letters of recommendation

Please note that all shortlisted candidates will be required to attend a selection interview. The date of the interview will be communicated after shortlisting.
