KNUST logoWe are glad to inform the general public and prospective applicants that the INSTITUTE OF DISTANCE LEARNING, KNUST in collaboration with Directorate of Degree & Distance Learning Programmes, ALL-OVER POLYTECHNIC, LAGOS/FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC, ADO-EKITI/SCHOOL OF BIOMEDICAL AND ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES, LAGOS Admission form for Candidates to Undergraduate and Postgraduate Degree Programmes For the 2016/2017 Academic Year are now on sale.

The management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana is using this medium to invite application from suitable and qualify candidates for Admission to the following programmes of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, through Distance Learning Mode and hosted by the Directorate of Degree and Distance Learning Programmes, All-Over Polytechnic, Nigeria for the 2016/2017 Academic Year.

KNUST Kumasi, Ghana Institute of Distance Learning Available Programmes are:

1. Postgraduate Degree Programmes:

  • MSc. Information Technology
  • MSc. Industrial Finance and Investment
  • Master of Public Administration
  • MPhil/MSc. Procurement Management
  • MSc. Environmental Science

2. Two year Top-up Programmes leading to the award of Bachelor of Science (BSc) degrees in the following programmes:

  • BSc. Agricultural Engineering
  • BSc. Mechanical Engineering
  • BSc. Computer Engineering
  • BSc. Geomatic Engineering
  • BSc. Nursing
  • B.Sc. Business Administration, with specialization in the following areas:
    i.    Accounting
    ii.   Human Resources Management
    iii.  Business Information Technology
    iv.   Logistics and Supply Chain Management
  • Building Technology in the areas of:
    i.  BSc. Quantity Surveying and Construction Economics (QSCE)
    ii. BSc. Construction Technology and Management (CTM)

 

General Entry Requirements for Postgraduate Programmes

  1. MSc. Information Technology

Candidates must have one of the following: A first degree with at least a second class Lower from an accredited university or university colleges in any of the following areas:

Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Communication and Technology, Business Information Technology, Mathematics, Engineering, Social Science with a strong background in Mathematics

Students with weak computer science background (Social science students) especially in programming may be required to take additional courses as may be deemed necessary by the Department.

  1. MSc/MPhil. Industrial Finance and Investments

The MSc./MPhil Industrial Finance and Investments Programme is an advanced professional oriented international qualification open to working professionals from Ghana and other countries who want to develop career in the field of finance and investments. Applicants are required to hold:

A good First degree, preferably Second class lower or better in any of the following disciplines: Accounting; Commerce; Business Administration; Banking and Finance; Mathematics; Statistics; Economics; Actuarial Science; Engineering; Physics; Computer Science and related disciplines.

OR
A final Professional Certificate (i.e. Chartered Level) from ACCA, ICAG, CFA and CIMA plus a minimum of 2 years working experience.

  1. MSc. Environmental Science

This programme is open to candidates with a good first degree in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, Geography, Culture and Tourism, Natural Resource Management and Agriculture.

  1. Master of Public Administration

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts or Science. Admission preference would be given to candidates working within the Public Service.

  1. MSc/MPhil Procurement Management

This programme introduces students to the legal instruments and institutional arrangements for modern procurement systems. It aims at equipping students with skills for designing systems that prevent and detect fraud/corruption in the procurement process. Students through this programme would be abreast with internationally accepted principles governing sound management of procurement systems.

Applicants must hold a good Bachelor’s degree in Building Technology (Construction Technology and Management or Quantity Surveying and Construction Economics); Civil Engineering; Land Economy; Business Administration and Management or Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture. Graduates from other disciplines can also apply.

For the purposes of assessing suitability, all postgraduate candidates may be required to take an interview or entrance examination or both. Applicants who wish to pursue the MPhil must submit (in about 500 to 700 words) the following:

(a) An outline of research proposal
(b) Statement of purpose

Entry Requirements for (Top-up) Undergraduate Programmes

General Requirements for All Programmes:

In addition to programme specific requirements indicated below, applicants must have at least 5 (five) credits in GCE “O” Level /six (6)Credits in SSSCE/WASSCE subjects in the relevant areas, including English Language, Mathematics and Science.

Specific Requirements for Programme:

  1. BSc. Geomatic Engineering

Applicants must have a Higher National Diploma with at least lower credit from an accredited Institution in Surveying, Geodetic/Geomatic Engineering or any related discipline.

  1. BSc. Agricultural Engineering

Applicants must hold Higher National Diploma from an accredited Institution with at least a Lower Credit in Agricultural Engineering.

  1. BSc. Business Administration

Applicants must have a Higher National Diploma from an accredited Institution with at least Lower Credit in Business-related areas, such as Accounting, Secretarial, Management, Purchasing and Supply, Marketing, Hospitality Management etc.

  1. BSc. Computer Engineering

Applicants must hold a Higher National Diploma from an accredited Institution with at least Lower Credit in Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Telecommunication Engineering.

  1. BSc. Mechanical Engineering

Applicants must have a Higher National Diploma from an accredited Institution with at least Lower Credit in any of the following Mechanical Engineering disciplines:

  • Production Engineering
  • Plant Engineering
  • Automobile Engineering
  • Foundry Technology
  • Refrigeration and Air- Conditioning
  1. Building Technology (in the areas of BSc. Construction Technology and Management or
    BSc. Quantity Surveying and Construction Economics);
    HND in Building Technology or its equivalent diploma certificate. A sound background in Mathematics is required.

General Entry Requirements for Four-Year Degree Programmes

  1. BSc. Construction Technology and Management (CTM) /
    BSc. Quantity Surveying and Construction Economics (QSCE)

SSSCE/WASSCE Applicants: Candidates must obtain:

  1. CREDITS in Core subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science
    ii.  Candidates who read Science or Technical should have credit in Elective/ Further Mathematics;
    iii. Candidates who read General Arts should have credits in Elective/ Further Mathematics, Geography and Economics.
    iv.  In all an applicant must obtain an aggregate of 24 or better.

Method of Application

Applicants are required to visit our admissions website (For Undergraduate) and (For Postgraduate), follow the instructions to complete their application online after payment of the appropriate Application Fee. They are required to print a copy of the online form and attach photocopies of the Relevant Documents and Payment Teller to be submitted to;
