kavli-institute-for-astronomy-and-astrophysics-peking-university-chinaWe are glad to inform the general public and all interested candidates that the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Peking University, China Postdoctoral Fellowships Program is ongoing.

KIAA is an international center of excellence promoting basic astrophysical research.  With English as its working language, KIAA is an intellectual platform for scientific exchange. KIAA is engaged in national and international theoretical and observational initiatives, development and use of facilities, and student training, pursued in partnerships with other Kavli institutes and a network of domestic and international astronomy centers.  KIAA regularly sponsors thematic workshops and conferences. Its members have access to a variety of domestic and international facilities.  The KIAA and Department of Astronomy have about 25 faculty, 20 postdoctoral fellows, 50 graduate students, 120 undergraduates, and many visiting scholars.

The Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (KIAA) at Peking University (PKU), Beijing, China invites applications for (1) KIAA Postdoctoral Fellowships and (2) KIAA-Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Postdoctoral Fellowships, starting on July 1/October 1, 2017.

The KIAA Postdoctoral Fellowship is open to qualified applicants in any area, including

(1) Observational cosmology,

(2) Exoplanets, star formation, and stellar populations,

(3) High-energy and gravitational physics, and

(4) Computational astrophysics.  The appointment is for a period of two years, renewable for a third year subject to a performance evaluation and the availability of funding.

The KIAA-CAS Postdoctoral Fellowship gives preference to applicants whose research is closely related to observational facilities hosted by CAS, including

(1) Galaxy and AGN research using optical spectroscopy,

(2) Physics of AGN jets using radio techniques,

(3) Gas and dust content of galaxies and AGNs, with special emphasis on H I (21 cm) observations,

(4) and pulsars.  CAS is the largest national science institution in China and includes several national observatories and institutes in astronomy and astrophysics, located in Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Kunming and other cities. CAS operates most of the major astronomical facilities in China, including LAMOST, 500m FAST and 65m Tianma radio telescopes, and is planning future facilities such as an optical/IR 12m telescope, several space telescopes, and international facilities such as TMT and SKA.  The appointment is for a period of three years, the first two at KIAA and the third at one of the CAS observatories.
