  • First Degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower in any discipline in Environmental Sciences, Science, Social Science, Agriculture or Engineering; or

GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

A candidate applying for Postgraduate Studies in the Federal University of Technology, Minna must have obtained five (5) Credits in WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and GCE (O’Level) or their equivalents including English Language and Mathematics at not more than two sittings. No admission shall be made on the basis of any awaiting results and no exemption is made for admission into any programme.

Master Degree Programmes

  1. A Minimum of Second Class Honours (Lower Division) degree from Federal University of Technology, Minna or any other recognized
  1. A Third Class Honours Degree with at least 3 years graduation experience in relevant fields may be In some areas, passing a qualifying examination to be administered by the Department of the candidates, in consultation with the Postgraduate School, may be required.
  • Candidates with HND with a minimum of Lower Credit, OND Lower Credit and a Postgraduate Diploma in relevant field with, at least a minimum of Lower Credit and one year graduation experience may be
  • For avoidance of doubt, candidates with PASS grade at any level Degree, PGD, HND and OND do not qualify for admission to the PhD/ Master/PGD No Diploma candidate with CGPA less than 2.50 qualifies for admission into the Master Degree Programmes.
  • Where examination is required as in the case of (ii) and (iii) above, an examination fee of 00 will be charged outside the cost of Postgraduate application forms.
  1. In all cases of admission the final decision on qualified candidates rests with the Postgraduate School Board. Candidates with Science-based background are normally considered.

 

PhD programme

  1. Candidates for admission for any of PhD Programme shall be Master Degree graduates of the Federal University of Technology, Minna or any other University recognized by the Senate or holders of equivalent qualifications acceptable to the University Senate(Not professional masters).
  1. A Master Degree holder applying for PhD Programme of the University must have maintained a weighted score average of 60% or a ‘B’ grade or a CGPA of 50 out of 5.00 in overall performance in the Master Degree programme.
  • Appropriate courses may be prescribed for candidates whose background is considered weak for the areas of This is done at the discretion of the School/Department within the approved general regulations/guidelines of the Postgraduate School.

 

DURATION OF PROGRAMMES

Master Degree Programmes

The Master Degree programmes are expected to last a minimum of three Semesters for full-time students and there is no part time for Master’s degree programmes. The maximum allowable periods of studies shall be six semesters for full-time, subject to passing all courses at the end of each semester and maintaining a CGPA of 2.5 at the end of the course-work programme. Failure to meet this requirement will result in withdrawal from the programme.

PhD Programme

A Minimum of six semesters (three (3) academic sessions) and maximum of ten semesters (five (5) academic sessions) for full-time students.

A Minimum of ten semesters (five (5) academic sessions) and maximum of fourteen semesters (seven (7) academic sessions) for part-time students respectively.

  1. Higher National Diploma (HND) with a minimum of Lower Credit in Urban and Regional Planning or related
  1. BTech or equivalent in Urban and Regional planning from a recognized University with a minimum of Third
  • Minimum of Five O’ Level credits to include English Language, Mathematics Economics, Geography, and any of the following Physics, Chemistry, Technical Drawing and Biology/Agricultural

  1. Department of Computer Science Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science (Full-time) Entry Requirements:
  1. BSc or BTech/BEng from any recognised Institution with a minimum of Third Class
  2. HND in Computer Science from a recognized institution with a minimum of Lower
  • Minimum of Five O’ Level credits to include English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any other two relevant Science

 

b) Department of Cyber Security

Postgraduate Diploma in Cyber Security Science (Full-time)

Entry Requirements:

  1. A Higher National Diploma (HND) in Cyber Security Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from a recognised Institution with not less than Lower
  1. Bachelor Degree in Cyber Security Science with not less than Third Class Division
  • A Bachelor Degree in a related field (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, any Engineering Degree, Science Disciple or Mathematics) with minimum of Second Class
  1. Minimum of Five (5) O’ Level Credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and either Economics or Agricultural Science or Further
  1. Department of Library and Information Technology Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Technology (Full-time) Entry Requirements:
  1. HND with a minimum of lower credit pass in any disciple
  2. Third class in tech Library and Information Technology or Bachelor of Library and information Science from any recognized University.
  • Bachelor degree with a minimum of second class lower division in any discipline
  1. Minimum of five (5) O’ Level credits passes in English Language, Mathematics, and any other (3) Subjects from Geography, Physics, Chemistry Biology/Agricultural Science and Economics or Accounting or

Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Management (Full-time)

Entry Requirements:

  1. A minimum of HND at Lower Credit in any related discipline or First Degree with a minimum of Third Class from Environmental/Social Sciences and Engineering background from any recognized institution
  1. Minimum of  five  (5)  O’  Level  credits  including  English  Language,   Geography, Physics, and any other Science Subject

 

7.   SCHOOL OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

  1. Department of Science Education

Postgraduate Diploma in Science Education (Full-time)

  1. Department of Educational Technology Postgraduate Diploma in Technology Education (Full-time) Entry Requirements:
  1. Minimum of Third Class Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized
  1. Minimum of five (5) O’ Level credits including English Language, Mathematics and three other Science

 

8.   CENTRE FOR DISASTER RISK MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT STUDIES

  1. Professional Postgraduate  Diploma  in  Disaster  Risk  Management  and  Development Studies (Full-time)
  2. Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Climate Change and Mitigation and Adaptation (Full-time only)

Entry Requirements:

  1. Minimum of Third Class Bachelor’s Degree in Sciences, Engineering, and Environmental Sciences from recognized
  2. Minimum of Lower Credit in Higher National Diploma (HND)
  • Minimum of Five ‘O’ Level credits including English Language, Mathematics and any of Geography, Biology/Agricultural Science plus any two Science or social Science

 

9.  CENTRE FOR HUMAN SETTLEMENTS AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT.

  1. Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Urban Development (Full-time).

Entry Requirements:

  1. A Minimum of HND at Lower Credit in any related discipline or First Degree with a minimum of Third Class from Environmental/Social Sciences and Engineering
  1. Minimum of five (5) O’ Level credits passes including English Language & Mathematics plus any other relevant

 

DURATION OF STUDIES IN POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

Please note that any candidate with PASS grade at either OND or HND does not qualify for admission. Generally, Full-time Students are expected to graduate normally after Three Semesters on successful completion of their programmes, subject to maintaining a minimum CGPA of 1.50 in any semester.
